THE BEST DRESSED GROOM
2013年2月22日Today’s wedding is distinctly different from weddings past. From venues to food to attire, the rule seems to be “there are no rules”. But, when it comes to dressing the groom and his groomsmen, there are some things to really think about.
First, the bride has spent a great deal of money on a beautiful gown. Shouldn’t the groom be appropriately Prom Dresses under 100 to compliment his lady? The traditional tuxedo has changed. Just like wedding gowns, there are styles to fit everyone’s taste. Gone are the days of colored cummerbunds, ties and vests. Though some couples still like to go the traditional route with a colored vest and/ or tie for the men, there are other options including no vest, long ties in black, grey, navy or a print- a great gift idea for the groomsmen. The classic tux still exists, but now there are so many other choices. I have asked two of my favorite tuxedo experts and here is what they say about shopping for your tux.
Paul Pannone creator of eWednewz , grew up around tuxes and has been instrumental in covering the latest news in the tuxedo business with Flow Formal Wear for many years. His relationship with Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein and other top tuxedo makers has given him the knowledge and access to speak intelligently about the tuxedo business. I asked Paul about styles, trends and fit. The Cristal, by Ralph Lauren, has replaced “middle of the road” styles of the Ralph Lauren label. This modern luxurious tuxedo, with it’s notch lapel and made of superfine fabric is “perfect for today’s discriminating consumer”, according to Paul. This tux is tailored to varied body types and has added full features for the man who wears a size 48 or larger. Ralph Lauren leans toward the classic consumer, but has generated a more modern look and a sleek campaign for today’s groom. And, for the groom that prefers a slimmer cut tuxedo, Paul advises that Calvin Klein is the designer to choose. Either way, looking like James Bond or Cary Grant or “The Situation” is possible. Its all about your personal style!
What about fit? Just like the bride, not all men are built the same. And, you want your tuxedo to be perfectly fitted on your wedding day. For this, I went to the Number One source for the perfectly fitted tuxedo- James Buchakjian of Saget’s Formal Wear. James is so dedicated to the perfect fit and the happiest grooms! According to Jimmy, there are two kinds of groom- the trendy groom and the more traditional groom.
Jean- Yves Illusion Red
Jimmy describes the trendy groom as on who wants a tighter, flat front pant, a fitted shirt, skinny long ties or self tied bow ties and suspenders. These grooms tend to lean towards Calvin Klein, Jean Yves and Joseph Abboud for their wedding style. A more high fashion wedding needs a cutting edge style and Saget’s has them! For a more simple and elegant wedding with a modern flair, Ralph Lauren or Calvin Klein may be the way to go. Tuxedos made of a lightweight and luxurious wool fabric are most popular, as they are cooler and more comfortable.

Groomsmen should be dressed complimentary to the groom, but the groom should standout. A suggestion for a traditional couple, if you want to add color, have the groomsmen wear colored full back vests or ties. The groom should be complimenting the bride’s dress- including the color of his shirt. If the brides dress is diamond white or ivory, don’t wear a white shirt or a white vest. she will look dirty next to you in the photos.

What are some things you should look for in a store when shopping for a tuxedo?
1.Do they own the merchandise? If they get the tuxedos from another source, you may be stuck with an ill-fitting tux on your wedding day.
2. Do they cater to out of town groomsmen? Getting measurements and accommodating last minute fittings is important.
3. What happens if there is last minute trouble? What if a shirt is too small, a button is missing, a seam is ripped? Will they replace the item?
4. Do they carry the latest styles?
5. Do they offer the groom a free “groom’s preview? This is similar to a bride seeing the gown she wants to buy with a veil and accessories before she puts a deposit.
6. Do they have a custom tailor to fit your tuxes perfectly and do any last minute adjustments?
7. Do they offer pick up and delivery of the tuxedos. With all the things that need to be done at the last minute, having someone bring the tuxes to you and return for them after the wedding is a great service.
8. Do they offer a dresser service for the day of? Tying ties, putting on cuff links and helping the little ones are all things you can have with a day of dresser.
Finally, this is your day too! You are shopping for something you aren’t familiar with, much like the bride. So, don’t leave this to chance. Don’t go where you can’t get personal attention and follow up. And, don’t think that a suit is ok. Your wedding, no matter the flavor, is a very special day and looking your best is key. Wear a tuxedo. shine and have a beautiful day!
